Shiatsu
SHIATSU is a Japanese healing art that treats the person on all
levels of being. In Shiatsu (finger pressure) the practitioner applies
gentle pressure to the energy channels on the surface of the body
that carry our life-force, "KI", to all the organs and
systems of the body. Shiatsu adjusts the quality of Ki so as to
enhance wellbeing, prevent illness, and treat many common ailments.
It evolved in China along with acupuncture and herbalism over a
period of three to five thousand years and was developed in its
modern form in Japan in the last century. It is a State recognised
paramedical discipline in Japan.
In the oriental understanding of health all our bodily systems
depend on the quality and movement of Ki (life-force). The Shiatsu
practitioner is trained to to feel the quality of Ki when applying
pressure to the energy channels that connect to the internal organs.
This enables the practitioner to make an energetic diagnosis of
the whole person and to give a treatment based on it.
The treatment is given through the clothes on a soft mat on the
floor and takes one to one and a half hours. Our energetic system
is self-adjusting once the areas of deficiency and excess are stimulated
appropriately. Treatments are deeply relaxing and energising.
If you are in good health Shiatsu can help you to maintain and
enhance it. Many symptoms, pain and stresses can be relieved, and
more serious conditions prevented or allieviated. It can be used
alongside conventional medical care, psychotherapy, and can hasten
recovery in serious illness.
