| Reflexology
Reflexology involves the stimulation, manipulation and application
of pressure to points on the hands and feet that correspond to systems
and organs throughout the body.
Reflexologists believe that by applying pressure to these "reflex
points" (similar to Acupressure and Shiatsu) that the body
can be stimulated to begin healing itself.
In reflexology, the body is divided into ten vertical zones or
channels, five on the right and five on the left side of the body
running from head to toe. Each zone is a channel for energy, similar
to the qi ("chee") in Chinese Medicine. When energy becomes
blocked, this results in discomfort in the body. Stimulation of
the reflex points in the hands and feet corresponds to different
areas of the body, releasing blocked energy. For example, pressing
the ball of the foot may help with problems in the heart or lungs.
Despite the absence of hard scientific fact, there is plenty of
anecdotal evidence to support Reflexology as an excellent whole-body
treatment, specifically for hypertension, PMS, anxiety, phobias,
psoriasis, migraines, chronic pain, emotional, digestive and muscular
disorders.
