| Homeopathy
Homeopathy is a system of medicine that looks at the whole person,
to treat illness and relieve the discomfort of a wide variety of
health conditions. It is practiced by licensed physicians and other
qualified practitioners all over the world.
Information on the use of several hundred remedies has been collected
for nearly two centuries by homeopathic practitioners, through research
studies known as "provings," as well as documented clinical
cases and recent scientific trials.
Homoeopathy is based on the principal that "like cures like".
This means that a substance which can create certain symptoms in
a healthy individual can also be used to cure similar symptoms in
a "sick" person. For example, an onion, which produces
watering eyes and nose in a healthy individual, may be used as a
substance to create a remedy for hayfever.
Homeopathy is the opposite of conventional medicine. Instead of
treating a cold with drugs to suppress the symptoms, a homeopath
would introduce minute quantities of homeopathic remedies, which
would encourage the body's immune system to respond and heal itself.
Since Homeopathy is a "whole body system" of health,
a homeopath will consider the patient's personal life, eating habits,
sleeping patterns, exercise, appetite, moods, libido, environment
and anything else of relevance to create a case history.
Only after careful analysis will particular remedies be prescribed
to suit the specific person. After the initial visit, patients may
need to return again, once or twice a month, to assess treatment
and to allow the homeopathic practitioner adjust the remedies as
the condition changes. Chronic conditions may require treatment
over a longer period of time.
