Celebrate the Winter Solstice - With
Gratitude.
Imelda Duffy
On Dec. 21, the days start growing longer again. The world of nature
begins to rejuvenate. In these difficult and uncertain times, taking
a moment to acknowledge the blessings around us is more important
than ever. By incorporating an acknowledgement of nature into your
holiday season, you take the emphasis off the commercialism. What
are you grateful for this holiday season?
• Make a list of all the good things that you have in your
life.
• Begin a New Year Gratitude Journal. When you remember all
the things to be grateful for, you are less likely to suffer "winter
blues".
• Share your gratitude with friends, family and neighbours.
• Go for a walk in a park or the countryside and notice how
nature begins to slowly come to life as the days grow longer.
• Acknowledge the foods and the natural decorations - holly,
ivy, mistletoe, plants and flowers that are in season.
• Notice how many minutes more daylight there are each morning
and evening.Even as you read this, seeds of life grow in the silence
and darkness of the earth beneath our feet.
• Nurture your own seeds of potential - in quiet moments -
in the fertile ground of your own creative mind.
