Disclosure: when and how to share your Diagnosis

How does one meet other people?
How and when does one cross the borders from acquaintance to friendship to significant other?
Is disclosure more than just stating "I have a disability" or is there more to it?

This Life Skills course will look at practical ideas for considering disclosure ranging from what makes the autism spectrum particularly challenging to disclose to examining the who, what, when, why, and how questions involved when preparing to disclose to another person.

Everyone at some time has had to take the risk of telling another person something about themselves that could possibly damage the relationship. However, a strong need to reach better mutual understanding and trust often causes us to take such a risk. Unlike other challenges facing those with autism, there is no specific algorithm for for effecting a successful disclosure. However, by Using Rollo May's Three Worlds of being as a theoretical framework, this course will look at practical ideas for considering disclosure ranging from what makes the autism spectrum particularly challenging to disclose to examining the who, what, when, why, and how questions involved when preparing to disclose to another person.
