First Community Pilot for Online
Parenting Courses
Dublin, Ireland, July 3, 2003 : Parents and child care professionals
in inner city Dublin will be the first to pilot online parenting
and child development courses as a result of a joint development
program between St. Andrew’s Resource Center, New Life Learning
and the Irish Government.
St. Andrew’s Resource Center is one of the largest resource
centers in the country, originally developed to provide child-care
and family support facilities to the large local community in South
inner city Dublin. "We are constantly looking at innovative
ways to meet the needs of our local community, " says John
Fitzsimons, Administrator at St. Andrews’s, "that’s
why we are very excited at the potential of these programs. E-learning
is perfect for parents who because of job, family and time constraints
may not be in a position to avail of supports that they might otherwise
need."
"We are delighted to be working with John and his team at
St. Andrews, where they have a long history and experience in childcare"
says Ann Donnelly, New Life Learning’s Chief Executive, "having
successfully secured government funding for this pilot means that
we can enable St. Andrew’s to reach out to people who might
otherwise be left out of the loop."
Parents who do not have access to a p.c. at home, will be able
to come to St. Andrew’s where they can log on and complete
their chosen course, at their own time and pace.
